Flying Star Adventure

Flying Star Adventure Magazine (1928-1943) was a moderately successful but well-regarded pulp magazine in a crowded field that worked with ideas that were rare or unique at the time, such as concentrating on a broad slate of recurring characters owned by the magazine and keeping them all in what would later be termed a shared universe. We've finally been able to access the archives and bring these stories before the public for the first time since 1943.

The Flying Star Adventure Series is old-style adventures inspired by the pulp magazines of the 1920s-1940s, with heroes so skilled and smart they have a chance against the challenges they face, but with stronger characters and more thematic ideas. They evoke the idea of a time when the world was modern, but just barely, and there were still many places no one had ever seen.

For content, There's a good deal of violence, a little language and no sex, and the books are suited to ages 12-14 and higher.

Distant Lands

Three more adventures from the archives of Flying Star Adventure Magazine (1928-1942).

Fire in the Belly
Someone or something opens volcanic cracks when and where they will, destroying entire towns. Aviatrix Stella Baker joins forces with a USGS geologist to unravel the mystery. If they don’t succeed, and soon, the so-called “magma god” will ruin more lives and livelihoods.

Trollhulen
People vanish in an isolated fjord in Northern Norway. The locals whisper of trolls, but most would fear to enter the troll cave even if they could find it. But when a visiting sailor is lost, his captain calls on his own more than natural ally to find the cave and take the fight to the trolls.

The Jungle of Criaturas Retorcidas
Six people crash in the Amazon jungle, victims of a mysterious area where compasses fail. Aviatrix Stella Baker and Herpetologist Dirk Palaez are hired to mount a rescue, but they land to discover a twisted land of savage creatures that blur the lines between reptile, amphibian, and mammal as easily as they swallow human flesh. Mere survival is a challenge; a rescue will be Herculean.

Savage Beasts

From the archives of Flying Star Adventure Magazine (1928-1942) come three new adventures in the classic pulp style. In the far north, Aviatrix Stella Baker and Mountie George McLeod brave the frozen wilderness and find themselves in the territory of a cold-blooded giant whose only food is human flesh. In distant east Africa, a beast runs amok in Tanganyika, slaughtering animals and people alike without mercy. Kendrick’s Cagers accept the bounty knowing the beast is huge, tough, and always hungry. They’ll find it’s even worse than they knew. In Texas, Ranger Luke Wulf stumbles across a brutal, ritualistic murder. He soon discovers seventeen other people have been killed the same way. Can Wulf break the case fast enough to save number nineteen?
All are heroes so skilled and brave they might have a chance against the challenges they face. All will face opponents who are pitiless, cruel, monstrous. All will face…
Savage Beasts.
